Introducing Bangkok :
Bangkok Thailand's capital.
Bangkok is undoubtedly exotic, but can be elusive. Many visitors who stop here briefly only visit the main fourist sights. Those who dig deeper will discover a fascinating city, where a modern mall fits easily in the middle of teak houses and temples.
Bangkok is only 200 years old and has undergone a dramatic change. The last decades of the 20th century saw an amazing building boom. Now, at the beginning of the 21st century, the Thais have learned from their mistakes and are working to make the city a more pleasant environment: New parks are opening up; the Skytrain and Subway system, combined with the river boats mean that you no longer need to sit in traffic. The streets are not for walking, but walkways above the traffic and shopping malls make shopping a much more pleasant experience. The restaruant and bar scene is more vibrant than ever, and shoppers can find just about everything from the ultrahip to the totally traditional. And you are never far away from an exotic spa.
This is a city that is leaping into the future, and Bangkok is bursting with energy while its inhabitants are kept sane by thir strong sense of happy.
There are several major business districts in Bangkok including Silom, Bangrak, Sathorn, Param 3, Param 2, Pra Nakhon, Pathumwan, Chatuchak and Pin Klao.
Residential areas are either crammed in what little space is left of the greater Bangkok area, or spread out through slightly less dense urban suburbs.
Tourist areas are also spread across the city, backpackers tend to head for the cheap guest houses of Khao San Road and the surround Banglumpoo area. Others may chose to stay in the hustle and bustle of China Town, or in the luxury of the central shopping areas like Siam, Silom and the numerous areas of Sukhumvit.
The full ceremonial name of Bangkok enters Thailand in the Guinness Book of World Records as the place with longest name in the world:
"Krung Thep Mahanakhon Amon Rattanakosin Mahinthara Yuthaya Mahadilok Phop Noppharat Ratchathani Burirom Udomratchaniwet Mahasathan Amon Piman Awatan Sathit Sakkathattiya Witsanukam Prasit."
